Survival De-Stressing for the Holidays

Blog | 0 comments

As we zoom in on Christmas week (and day!) most of us get so stressed out with all the extra demands on our time and resources that sometimes there is NO joy in this joyous time. But, we’ve found that with a little extra planning, you’ll have more of a chance to relax and enjoy yourself!  Below we are sharing a few tips to help releive that holiday stress!

  1.  Organize!

In ONE place, keep all the wrappings and trappings necessary to put together your gifts and cards.  This would include paper, pen, wrapping bags, scissors, tape, cards, addresses – to name a few.  It may not be an area of your house, but a simple box filled with those things you will be using so often.

  1. Skip the Line-Ups

More and more people are doing their shopping online.  With the click of a mouse, you can find the best deals; many times with speical discounts just because you are on the “online store”.  How tiring and frustrating it is to chase that special gift only to find it is sold out or backordered. Online you will save the gas, your feet AND the stress!

  1.  Expect the Unexpected

At our home, we always have a few generic gifts wrapped and ready to go for those unexpected times when you immediately need a gift.  ‘Food’ gift cards are easy as well as seasonal items (tea towels, mugs, ornaments, etc).  You are ready to go no matter who drops by or what occasion you might be attending.

  1.  Homemade

Fewer and fewer folks bake now-a-days and crafting is becoming a thing of the past too.  Whip up your favourite recipe of homemade cookies, squares, candy, fruit cake, jams, jellys, wine … oh I could go on and on!  Most folks appreciate this type of  gift way more than one that was purchased.  For wrapping purposes, festive tins and jars can be picked up at the ‘dollar store’, and so modestly priced too.

  1.  The Clean Up

When taking down decorations at the end of the season, take that extra bit of time to organize, discard used/broken, label boxes, etc.  You will be SO thankful when you start the decorating for your season next year.

Although the Christmas holiday season is filled with joy, fun and laughter, each year we’ve all found that it also comes with increased demands that can weigh heavily on each of us.  Don’t worry though!! If you manage the holiday pressures by planning ahead, you’ll be able to enjoy the season, rather than just surviving it!
